Setting Up Google Analytics 4 for Your Roofing Company

January 28, 2025

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the current standard for website analytics. Proper setup ensures you have accurate data to make informed marketing decisions.

Create a GA4 property for your roofing website. Use the Google Analytics setup wizard in your Google account. Install the tracking code on your website via Google Tag Manager, a plugin, or direct code insertion.

Set up conversion tracking. In GA4, conversions are key events that represent valuable actions. For roofing companies, key conversions include: phone call clicks, form submissions, quote requests, email clicks, and chat initiations.

Configure event tracking for important user interactions: video views, scrolling depth, outbound link clicks, file downloads (like brochure PDFs), and time on page.

Set up e-commerce tracking (enhanced measurement) if you accept online payments. Track transactions, revenue, and product performance.

Link GA4 with Google Ads, Google Search Console, and your CRM for a complete picture of the customer journey from first click to conversion.

Create custom dashboards and reports that focus on roofing-specific metrics: leads by source, cost per lead by channel, conversion rates by device, and geographic performance.

Set up audience definitions for remarketing. Create audiences based on specific behaviors: visited service page but didn't convert, spent more than 2 minutes on site, or viewed the pricing page.

Exclude internal traffic. Filter out visits from your office IP addresses so your data reflects real customer behavior. Also filter out known bots and crawlers.

Go beyond vanity metrics. Focus on actionable data: which channels generate the most leads, which pages convert best, and where visitors drop off in your conversion funnel.

Review your GA4 data weekly for the first month after setup to ensure tracking is working correctly, then monthly thereafter.
